I forgot I’d taken some close-ups of mom’s Multnomah. Don’t you just love garter stitch?

I’ve been finishing projects left and right this week. One of them was the test knit poncho/capelet for brendadada on Ravelry. This is a great layering piece — very light but surprisingly warm

There’s a little story behind the name of this project. Originally, I bought the yarn at Sommerfuglen in Copenhagen. It’s apparently the yarn store the Danish queen shops in! Their website is the only place I’ve seen that lists colorway names for the Kunstgarn. The colorway I used is called “Glacier” which inspired the name for the project.

A couple of weeks before Mother’s Day, I brought mom a few yarn choices and had her pick a skein and a pattern to go with it. She made some awesome choices. :) Hopeasäie Gold + Multnomah. Mind you, her decision was influenced by my Multnomah she saw me wearing but still a good pairing. And I’d wanted to make another Multnomah anyway so the pattern choice was just perfect.

I’ve been on the hunt for spinning podcasts lately. Or knitting podcasts that feature spinning content. I discovered The Knit Girllls only recently but they’ve soon become my favorite.

Then I found Wexford Knits

And on her recommendation, Knit Me Happy.

Then there are two audio podcasts, Spin Doctor and Spin Control.

Any others I should be watching or listening to?

The pattern I was test knitting has been published! It’s called the Seaham Sheer Poncho by Brenda Burrell, for sale on Ravelry for £2.50.
I was looking through Brenda’s other designs and found this nice shrug pattern - Palindrome Derivative Hug - and it’s free, too! I think I need to make something like this for the summer.

brendadada on Ravelry was looking for test knitters for her design, a cowl/poncho. I thought the design looked interesting and I had suitable yarn in my stash so I jumped at the opportunity. Only when I read the pattern did I realize it was another one with contiguous sleeves! :) Apparently I’m attracted to the method and it does indeed fit me nicely.

I’ve got a little ways to go still on my Glacial Poncho but the pattern should be available on Ravelry any day now.

Another old sweater, well, a cardigan really.

I still have some of that yarn left so I’m thinking maybe doing Radiate from the Spring 2009 Knitty.

Holy crap, an awesome way to upsize the Pomatomus socks! Here’s miastick’s Ravelry project page: Pomatomus extravaganza

The advent calendar shawl was another project that didn’t get finished quite according to schedule. Instead of being finished for Christmas, I managed to get it done by Easter.

The shawl tagged along when we went to see Iron Sky in the movies, and some of the motifs remind me of zeppelins hauling meteors, hence the name.

I’ve already cast on another lace shawl: the Anona Shawlette.

Another long-standing project finished! The sock knitting part was easy — duplicate stitching took FOREVER.

  • On Ravelry: EXTENDed Bubble Bobble Socks
  • Pattern: Mash-up of Amy Swenson’s Universal Toe-Up Sock Formula and a Bubble Bobble mittens pattern that used to available on Ravelry. The original pattern had charts for Bub, Bob, and the empty bubble. The rest of them were pretty easy to make — 1 pixel = 1 stitch. Lots of item images are available on the Bubble Bobble Strategywiki.
  • Yarn: 353 yd/323 m of Katia Laine Nylon in black (501), small amounts of Sandnes Garn Sisu in white (1001), blue (6027), apple green (8514), yellow (2117), coral (4316), and purple (5226).
  • Needles: 2.5 mm circular

So I didn’t quite finish the Golden Kraken mittens in time for the Season 2 Game of Thrones premiere. Close enough, though — they’re done now!

Anyone interested in the pattern? Or test knitting?

TheKnitGirllls Episode 103 - Now With Extra Gluttony

Finally got around watching this week’s episode of The Knit Girllls. Love Leslie & Laura, they’re so funny. And horrible enablers!

Another triangular shawlette — this was done in Fall 2009. I recently pulled it out again and was reminded of how much I liked the pattern. I ran out of yarn on the feather-and-fan border so I had to bind off abruptly. The cast-on edge is also quite tight. All this makes me want to make another Multnomah and do it proper next time!

Some more older FO’s. This triangular scarf/shawlette was done after the beaded one in Summer 2009.
