Finally found my finishing mojo and now my Livingstone Cardigan is done! And found some yummy toggle buttons.

Mods

  • Worked all pieces seamlessly, joined the sleeves to body for the raglan decreases.
  • Added a sort of waist-shaping by working on smaller needles for about 5 cm / 2 in around the waist.
  • Picked up stitches for the front bands rather than sewing it on later. Added an extra (7th) wrapped stitch in the collar. Worked the front bands for 4 in (10 cm).

Feeling really great about this cardi but if I was to make it again, I would probably make the body a bit longer.

I couldn’t resist the Livingstone Cardigan (Ravelry) that was in the latest Interweave Knits. Cast-on on January 6, I’ve now completed the body, sleeves, collar and front bands with only the button loops left to go. That’s just two weeks for a (nearly) finished cardigan! Project on Ravelry.

Here’s another project that’s been done for two years now but never got posted as finished on Ravelry.

For reals this time: the cabled DROPS cardigan pattern has finally been translated to English. And it’s on Ravelry, too. Is it too hot to start knitting winter garments?

DROPS Cabled Cardigan

The pattern is out! Only it’s in Norwegian…

I so want this.

After finishing the MacPalmikkoneule cabled cardi I still had some balls remaining of the yarn. The DROPS Tailored cardigan had been in my queue for a while and seeing villapeikko’s version made me want to knit it even more. A few yardage calculations confirmed me that I had enough yarn and off I went.

  • Pattern: DROPS 97-18 Tailored cardigan (ravelry)
  • Yarn: about 6.5 skeins (316g/935 yd/855 m) of Novita Wool in colorway #192 (dark teal)
  • Needles: 3.5 mm circular
  • Mods: I couldn’t get gauge so I took stitch counts from size S and measurements (in cm) from size XS; moss stitch borders instead of garter stitch; knitted body in one piece; top-down seamless set-in sleeves with short-row shaping

Tailored Cardigan #2

I’m so pleased with how this turned out that I’m already knitting another one in apple green. I want one in every color! :)

Tailored Cardigan #2

I finally got buttons for Buttony. Really simple, understated buttons but they’re a yummy chocolate color that goes so well with the striping.
I love how this turned out! I’m really happy with the shaping.

This cabled cardigan was a long, slow project. I started it in Summer 2007 with the overly optimistic (it turns out) idea of getting to wear it in the fall.

I was working on the project on and off — mostly off — all through the fall and winter. It got cast aside every time I found something more interesting, like socks. When Sockdown: Ravelry started to wind down for a breather, I picked up the cardigan again. With one and a half sleeves to go it was a pretty quick finish.

  • Pattern: MacPalmikkoneule (ravelry)
  • Yarn: 12 skeins (600g/1776 yd/1624 m) of Novita Wool in colorway #192 (dark teal)
  • Needles: 3.5 and 4.0 mm circular
  • Mods: Added waist + shoulder shaping and 3-needle bind of for shoulders; folder rib hem; zipper; top-down set-in seamless sleeves with Barbara Walker-esque short-row shaping

I’d neglected to wash my gauge swatch so of course the cardigan grew when I wet-blocked it (hello, superwash). This wasn’t actually a bad thing because it was too snug before blocking. The fit is great now but the fabric is a bit too loose and drapey. And the sleeves are already starting to pill. But I’ve been wearing this a lot. :)

Buttony = finito. Buttony/Cinnamony is finished (in 2 weeks!) and it’s looking pretty good. A bit baggy under the arms but nothing too bad. This will be a super warm and cozy cardigan for the winter.

  • Pattern: Buttony (ravelry) by Katie Marcus
  • Yarn: Wendy Fusion (50% wool/50% acrylic), colorway #157 Cinnamon, about 6.5 balls (330 g/635 yd/581 m)
  • Needles: 6.5 mm
  • Mods: Cast-on 84 sts (7 garter edge + 10 sleeve + 26 back + 10 sleeve + 24 front + 7 edge); slipped last two sts of every row with yarn in front; 12 button holes.

Still no buttons.
