The first shipment of the Greenwood Fiberworks fiber club is here. This is 4 oz of Polwarth in “Downton”, inspired - of course - by Downton Abbey. Which I haven’t seen. *gasp*

I can’t wait to start spinning this! There’s a spin-along happening in the Greenwood Fiberworks Ravelry group and I’ve decided to join the rest of the world and spin this while watching Downton Abbey.

I’ve been to two fiber/crafts fairs recently that were very, very helpful in expanding the yarn and fiber stashes.
Left to right: Hopeasäie Gold (she’s on Etsy), Handu Ilu’s Special in green, and Handu 100% Merino Sock Yarn (red/gray). Handu is on Etsy, too!

Sparklies!

More sparklies! Four different colors of seed beads.

And finally, something for the wheel. Left to right: Knitlob’s Lair Polwarth, Lorna’s Laces Wool Top in “Huron”, Knitlob’s Lair Corriedale, and undyed oatmeal 100% Bluefaced Leicester (BFL). Tuulia of Knitlob’s Lair is also on Etsy but her shop is now empty. :/

Want this so bad although I’m kinda glad it’s sold out. Sigh.

OMG I got in! There’s only one spot available!

I taught myself to Navajo ply! It wasn’t as difficult as I’d thought although my plying is not even by any standards. Still, I’m pretty happy with the results. <3

Specs

 • Cheeky Navajo
 • 350 m / 108 g (380 yd / 3.8 oz)
 • WPI: 22 (fingering)
 • Navajo ply
 • Fiber: 100% Falkland roving from FreckleFaceFibers, in colorway “Cheeky”

Listening to the Just One More Row podcast has made me want to take up spinning again. I finished the singles of the Black Welsh I’d started in probably 2009 (seriously!) and then - for the first time - plied them on my wheel last night.

These skeins need to take a bath first, I’ll post specs later.

Some fiber porn and spinning photos!

The handpainted rovings are from Freckle Face Fibers: 4.2 ounces of BFL in “Duchess” and Falkland in “Cheeky”.

The brown one is a free 100g sample from Wollinchen that I got when I ordered my wheel (Kromski Sonata). Unfortunately I haven’t written down what it was — if there ever was any label on it — but looking at their photos I’m pretty sure it’s Black Welsh.

New yarn (and to-be yarn)… Merino roving from handpaintedyarn.com.

This is so not going to end well.
There’s been a learn-to-spin craze going ‘round… and I caught the bug. It’s been weird — it seems like every innocent looking knitting blog I read lately is either by someone who’s a terrible handspun enabler or someone who, like me, has heard the call of the dark side. And then it all made perfect sense: January 2008 is NaSpiMoMo, National Spin More Month. It’s a conspiracy! No wonder I couldn’t resist.
So I fell hard. Got the spindle. Got the fiber. Don’t have the faintest idea what to do with them. :D These have been more than helpful:
Beginning Spinners Ravelry group
The Joy of Handspinning — lots of great videos
ISpindle.com videos, especially park and draft
Something to drool about
